Albuquerque, New Mexico is the setting of the High School Musical movies. East High supposedly is in Albuquerque. East High is actually located in Salt Lake City, Utah. While High School Musical is meant to take place in New Mexico, it doesn’t really capture all of the cultural aspects of schools in Albuquerque. For example, New Mexico is a minority majority state and the only brown character just moved into town. Also, there is no New Mexican culture portrayed in the movies. New Mexican culture includes food, building architecture, and language because so many people are bilingual in both English and Spanish, making Spanish a central part to New Mexico because street signs, stores and even websites are split to accommodate both native English speakers and native Spanish speakers.
