Detention is where Troy Bolton, Gabriella Montez, Taylor McKessie, Chad Danforth, Sharpay, and Ryan Evans are sent to by Ms. Darbus as a punishment for using their cellphones in High School Musical.
During detention, Taylor approaches Gabriella and invites her to join the school's scholastic decathlon team. Due to their detention, both Troy and Chad miss their basketball practice, much to the annoyance of Coach Bolton, Troy's father. He came to find them, and much to his dismay, stopped by Ms. Darbus, resulting a fight in the principal's office.
When Jason Cross chews gum in the theater, Ms. Darbus sends him to detention as the lighting crew needs help.
