At New York City in the early 1970s, this location is all about glitz, glamour and high fashion, essentially causing it to be known as Twinkle Towne. He is the leading diamond industry businessman who earned his nickname for his large wealth and high status. Minnie is a young girl who wants to live life by her own rules and even find true love if possible but Mr. Schain controls everything in the diamond district, including his daughter. Because to that, he also possibly has difficulty as to whom she is allowed to date and this keeps her dreams contained. Due to his rise of becoming a successful mogul, he's renowned by others and even a celebration party for Mr. Schain was prepared.

His family skirts along the edge of the diamond district, wishing to be in with the rich and powerful socialites. Except for Arnold that is, because he dreams of the stars, of the man on the moon and of love. But, his family members disapprove of his wishes and he is treated like a black sheep because of he's viewed as a nerd by his relatives, with only his telescope and astronomy chart to keep him company, these dreams seem to be futile. Until one fateful night, Arnold decide to sneak into the property of the Schain estate, over some very elaborate, decorative railings and archways that belong to wealthy individuals. Arnold then crashes the celebration party, although he can't remember if it was out of curiosity or to mock the socialites because amidst the announcement made by Mr. Schain about the new fancy diamond necklace that will revitalize the industry with its beauty, Arnold was instead attracted by a different kind of beauty, Minnie and it was love at first sight.
Act 2[]
Meanwhile, the two male and female antagonists who are fond of merengue are in attendance of the party. The two plot over a scheme involving Mr. Schain's precious necklace that they suspect is worth a fortune because of its beauty and it is one-of-a-kind. They fade into the background at this point in time as well. In the meantime, Arnold and Minnie are unable to meet face-to-face during the party due to their imbalance in social status, until they meet again at a local area where a certain tree is. Arnold and Minnie still attracted to each other, bond over their familial issues and both agree to get out of the city. They believe that diamonds are the answer to their problem. They choose to devise a plan to steal the same necklace and find someone to buy it for a good amount of money, so they can have the funds to make their escape which won't be easy. The antagonistic couple appear again and will stop at nothing to retrieve the necklace. They arrive at the "Annual City Disco" event to show off their moves because of their appreciation for dancing and try to get some information from Mr. Schain. A gold statue of himself is presented in honor of his accomplishment and everyone is supposedly wearing sequined hats for celebration with black light posters on the wall and a tinsel covered ladder are laid in the center of the room. The same couple feel a song coming on and feeling cheeky, sing about making their way to the top.
And with the entire town, including Mr. Schain and the antagonistic couple in attendance at the disco event, Minnie and Arnold attempt to break into the diamond district, so they can commit the diamond necklace theft and know that this is the one chance to complete their task. Arnold hides behind some crates nearby that supposedly contain diamonds and is on lookout with his telescope. He wanted to give off the impression that he was helping, considering that this object wasn't too helpful. In the meantime, Minnie walks freely to her own father's estate and her identity was the perfect cover up for her true intentions. She was able to take the necklace, make it back outside and convene with Arnold, with the disco still underway and no one else is the wiser. Filled with adrenaline from their crime, try to make a run for it, nearly free. Until they run into someone neither of them expected, Johnny Omni and his camel. He recognizes Minnie from the party and she always wondered why there was a camel at that event. However at the moment, Minnie worries that her and Arnold's plan is going to fail. Yet, Johnny doesn’t make a move to call the police or turn them in, instead he catched the interest in the necklace and wants to purchase it. Minnie and Arnold still suspect that he will turn around and rat the lead couple out to Mr. Schain, but they are offered with a incredible amount of cash and at ease with the transaction. Then, Johnny ponders if they actually met up by chance.
